My Hobbies

Theatre

I would say my main hobby is acting, but saying that sounds wrong to me. Theatre, as cliche as it sounds, is my life. It's what I hope to do as a career. I love stepping into another person's shoes and learning about life from a different perspective. My first show was an unknown production written by our director called "The Haunted Pumpkin Patch." I played a rooster that was transformed into a toad by a witch.... Yeah, it wouldn't have won a Tony, but it changed my life. It introduced me to the completely new and exciting world of acting for which I will be eternally grateful. From then on, I was dozens of productions, my favorites being musicals. I love to sing, so any excuse to act and sing at the same time is a dream come true. I acted throughout elementary and middle school, but high school is where I really hit my stride. I nabbed several leads in many productions and even became my school's Theatre President. My acting resume is something I really pride myself on. My first couple productions were written by my acting teacher Miss Anne. They were: "The Haunted Pumpkin Patch" as The Rooster, and "Dressing Room 13" in which I played the lead, Veronica. After that, I played two teachers in a production of "Little House on the Prairie." In high school, my resume expanded immensely. The productions I was in included: "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" (Ensemble), "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (Ensemble), "Sending Down the Sparrows" (Observer), "Snoopy the Musical" (Lucy Van Pelt), "Dorothy Meets Alice" (Wicked Witch of the West), "Dark Road" (Observer), "Annie" (Pepper), "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" (Ensemble), "Elf the Musical" (Jovie), "It's a Wonderful Neverland" (Ensemble), "Wild Strawberries" (Nickolette), Madagascar (Gloria) and "Singin' in the Rain" (Lina Lamont). My favorite show that I've ever been in has to be "Singin' in the Rain" and it is definitely the performance that I am most proud of. Just before I graduated from high school, I won an award for my portrayal of Lina Lamont, and it was one of the best moments of my life. I just hope my acting career continues and flourishes.

Softball

The other main hobby of mine is softball. I have been playing softball for over ten years. I started when I was eight years old. My dad was coaching my brothers baseball team and realized they didn't have enough players to play in the league. Despite the team and the league being only boys, my dad asked me to join the team and I agreed. At first, I was terrified of the ball and would run away when the pitch came for me to hit, but I soon learned to love the sport. I joined a softball team as soon as I could and soon excelled at it. I was soon good enough to try out to join a team at McCalister Park, a very hard league to join. I made it onto a team called the Jaguars and eventually, we won the league championship and competed in the state tournament. After I moved to Boerne, Texas, I played on a few select teams and even on my high school team. In terms of positions, I was a first baseman, a third baseman, a center fielder, and left fielder. It was one of my favorite activities growing up and I do miss it. It was a great way to meet people and work out. Hopefully, one day, I will be able to play again in an intramural team or something.
